The wonderful M. contacted me for a very special doll that was to be her surprise birthday present for her father. We timed the doll so it would be shipped to her new home across the pond in the UK and it became her first mail there.
They managed to keep it secret and it became the family's project, so to speak, to surprise her father with it. And they did! =)
Meet Saint Ansgar, a medieval german bishop who rose to sainthood. This doll was inspired by a mix of his statue: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c
For his tunics' hems I used some soutache cord (I have mixed feelings about soutache right now. It seems like a promising material, but it does require some practice to use it to its full potential, I think) and closed feather stitch embroidery. Oh, I love that stitch so much! I hope I get more ocasions of putting it to use in the future.
And silk ribbon is such a pleasure to handle! I just wish the darn thing wasn't so slippery!
And this one is just to show the crosses on his gloves. =) Deja vu of my Monthy Python set.
